About Me
I’m Alysse Rodriguez, a nonprofit operations leader with more than 15 years of experience in international nonprofits and high‑risk advocacy organizations. Over the last decade I’ve seen how nonprofit risks have escalated—from funding instability to increasingly sophisticated cybersecurity attacks and travel and fieldwork safety—and how often teams have grappled with uncertainty.
My work has included managing physical and digital risks for reproductive health teams, developing risk governance frameworks for international organizations, strengthening cybersecurity practices, and scenario planning for emerging threats. I shifted into consulting to help more nonprofits build the capacity and decision-making pathways they need to navigate this environment more effectively.
My approach focuses on analyzing external threats and internal vulnerabilities so organizations have a clear understanding of the risks facing their people—and the strategies to manage risk effectively. Case studies are available on request.
Can’t we use AI to develop risk management policies and procedures for us?
AI can draft generic policies and procedures for nonprofits but it can’t determine risk appetite or how teams actually work and make decisions under pressure. By working with me, you get a human partner who understands the complexities of nonprofit risks and how emergencies play out in real life based on 15+ years of experience.
How much do you charge?
My hourly rate starts at $175, but most projects are priced based on the specific type of support you need — whether that’s a training session, a crisis readiness evaluation, succession planning policy development, a combination of services or ongoing fractional support. Because every organizational context is different, I provide a clear, customized estimate after we discuss your goals, the scope of work, and timelines. This ensures you only pay for the support that’s truly relevant to your organization.
What is a risk governance framework and what does it look like in day to day operations?
A risk governance framework is the structure that defines how an organization identifies, evaluates, escalates, and responds to risk—and how leadership, staff, and the board share responsibility for those decisions. It sets expectations for risk appetite, outlines who has authority to act, and connects risk management to business continuity and succession planning so the organization can function during disruption and leadership transitions. Day to day, it shows up as clear escalation pathways, consistent decision‑making criteria, regular risk discussions in leadership meetings, documented roles and responsibilities, and teams using shared tools like risk registers, scenario plans, continuity procedures, and succession protocols to guide their actions and maintain stability even when key people or systems are under pressure.
What is fractional risk consulting or advising?
I’ve seen first hand how leaders and operations teams are spending more time thinking about risk assessments and risk management on top of their day to day responsibilities and tighter budgets. A fractional risk partnerships gives nonprofits consistent access to a senior risk leader who can strengthen internal systems and support teams through uncertainty without hiring a full-time staff person.
